Today marks my first official week here in el Porvenir. It was my day off today so considering I didn’t have anything else to do I decided to go explore and take some pictures. When I was walking on the main road everyone just kept staring at me haha I’m not really sure why but I’m guessing it’s because I am the new white girl in town. After walking for about an hour I decided to head back and as I was walking back I went past the Ventana campus and one of the kids was outside cleaning and stopped me so we talked for awhile then some others came over to talk. They invited me to hang out with them for the day so that was a relief I now had something to do. They leave on Saturday so they were all cleaning up the campus. I ran a couple errands with them then we all went and played some futbol. It was awesome we played against this Mexican team and I thought we would get killed considering it was all the whities against the Mexicans but we actually did really well. We only lost by 2 I think so I am pretty satisfied with that. After the game we went to the mall to pick up a couple items for dinner. At first when they said mall I was thinking you know something like a mall in America but no way. This was a small building that had some food items in the back and some clothes up front. I ate dinner with them and it was really good because I actually got to have a social life tonight. After dinner we hung out for awhile and then they found out that I have not been to the taco place yet so we took a little field trip to get one. It was so good and I feel like that is where a lot of my dinners will be haha. Instead of walking back in the dark to go home I just stayed the night there and it was a good change because I didn’t have to sleep alone for once.
I am really sad that they all leave on Saturday. I finally met some people and now they are leaving so that’s kind of a bummer. The girls were so nice and I really got to know them last night. One of them is pretty much exactly like me. We talked for a long time and it was just really encouraging with all that she had to say about el Porvenir and it makes me really excited to see what God has in store for me.
